The First Burn - Ethics Commentary

For this assignment you are to select an ethical issue in collegiate sports (NCAA) and write your own opinionated ethical rant (First Burn) explaining your stance on the subject at hand. This is your chance to vent on any ethical issue that bothers you within the NCAA.  Make sure to include an ethical justification for your stance, and describe in detail WHY you feel the way you do.  This project should focus on the NCAA and current issues at the collegiate level, and should lean very heavily on one side of the argument.  This project challenges you to identify an issue that annoys you, and to speak very strongly on that topic while supporting your opinions with facts and sources. 

Your First Burn may be created in written form, audio, or video.  Write a 4 page paper where you rant on your chosen moral dilemma in College sports; or  you  can record a 3 minute video or audio podcast, and post your project in LiveText under the assignment tab “First Burn” Videos should be posted to YouTube as a unlisted video, and you can submit the link to your video to LiveText. Note Private videos can not be viewed, so be sure to test your video link before posting.  Podcasts should be saved as mp4 or mp3 file types and uploaded under the assignment link as well.  If you decided to write a paper, make sure you follow APA style, with in text citations, and a minimum of 6 sources, at least 1 should come from the Sports Business Journal. 

Your assignments will be graded on your ability to clearly convey your stance on an ethical issue, using creative angles on this topic.  Your ability to support your opinion with hardcore facts will also be factored into your grade.  Make sure that you maximize your 3 minutes, or 5 pages by packing as much information in to your rant as possible.  Pack each sentence, and don’t waste a word.
