Your first forum is open for posting! What is a forum? It's a venue where ideas and views on a topic may be exchanged and discussed. Our forum assignment is very basic: a single topic post and a reply or comment to a classmate's post. We use the Laulima  Forums tool, an electronic bulletin board similar to ones your parents used on AOL during the last decade of the 20th century.

Forum Topic Choices

By now you should have read the Elements chapters on Voice and String Instruments and heard the music videos. Choose one of two topics to post on:

• Overtone Singing | Batzorig Vaanchig, The Hu and Anna-Maria Hefele performed overtone singing in the Human Voice chapter. What did you think of the performances and vocal quality? Be specific about the how and why of observations and opinions. For example, analyze and compare vocal styles you’re familiar with to Anna-Maria, The Hu and Batzorig. What did you like or dislike about the voices, pieces and/or the performances? What did you think about the guitar in Somewhere Over the Rainbow or the bowed chordophone (rebab) in Batzorig's performance? Were they accompaniment or a duet of equals? Did the music trigger emotions, alter your state of mind or get your toes and fingers tapping?
• Chinese Erhu Fusion | The Great Race by The Hsu-nami and Oogway Ascends from Kung Fu Panda were heard in the String Instruments chapter. What did you think of the performances and the solo instrument, the erhu? Be specific about the how and why of observations and opinions. For example, analyze and compare The Great Race and Oogway Ascends to other musical styles you’re familiar with such as classical violin, rock, metal or traditional Chinese music. What did you like or dislike about these pieces and/or the performance? How did Tina Guo's playing of the erhu compare to her cello playing in Oogway Ascends? How did the music make you feel? Did it trigger particular emotions, memories, alter your state of mind or invoke involuntary body movement?
