Traditional utilities, such as local gas companies, are usually monopolies. The three barriers to entry would deny entry because:

1. Legal barriers, as it would take a lot of legal resources to ensure that a business could legally participate in the marketplace,
2. Technological barriers, as the sheer amount of technology to enter the gas company, would require almost unlimited resources, and
3. Market barriers, as the current monopoly could effectively price out the competition.
