Homework Assignment #4 – Interface Design

Assignment:

Define the interface between a simple terminal (computer screen) and a computer system.  The simple terminal serves as a data entry device for date and temperature information.  The computer system compares the entered temperature to previous values, finds the highest and lowest temperatures, and sends a message to the terminal for display of this information.  The message includes the dates when the highest and lowest temperatures were recorded.

• Identify the functions performed by the terminal. Identify the functions performed by the computer system.
• Identify each function that must be implemented via the interface.
• For each function, identify the interconnection medium used to implement the function.
• Identify any operational requirements or environmental constraints that affect the interface.
• Identify any interface characteristics that must be quantified.
