What is the difference between an independent and a dependent variable in an experiment?
When the samples of an experiment undergo multiple treatments (variables), one of these variables is unchanged by the effect of the other variables and this is why it is called an 'independent' variable. What is more, the other variables are directly affected by the independent variable and are consequently called 'dependent' variables.
