Analyse/critique the ad campaign of Dove's "Real Beauty" based on how the consumer learning aspect was covered
Analyse/critique the ad campaign of Dove's "Real Beauty" based on how the consumer learning aspect was covered.
Expert Solution
These ads focused on how customers would learn about themselves and the products. Instead of traditional advertising on the basis of unrealistic models, it showed more average girls and women. In one part of the campaign, these women were sketched by an artist who could not see them: one sketch based on their description of themselves, and then a second based on a description of them from someone who met them briefly. Later the women looked at each sketch side by side, and saw that their descriptions of themselves were much harsher than those of a casual observer. This allowed females to see that there are differing notions of beauty, and therefore to learn to feel comfortable about their looks instead of worrying about not looking like some advertising model, or like some skewed critical idea of how they compare to others. The advertisers even allowed the public to vote about critical topics like appearing fat or wrinkled, a bold way to let customers learn about beauty.
