Lenin died on January 21, 1924 from a brain hemorrhage. In 1917, Lenin and the Bolsheviks successfully overthrew the Russian Czarist government. With this step, Lenin became the dictator of the country. However, civil war prevented Lenin from actually taking over until 1920. In 1922 Lenin would rename Russia the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR).
