SCI207 WEEK 1 DISCUSSION

Address whether or not we as humans should be concerned with the extinction rate.

Expert Solution

Yes, as humans we need to be concerned with the extinction. Extinction is a natural

process which is accelerated by humans. As the world continue to evolve so do we.

Humans need to realize with habits that we form we are slowly but surely contributing

to the extinction rate. Factors that include contribution are Global warming and a

changing habitat. According to Wake, (2008), “In fact, 99 percent of currently

threatened species are at risk from human activities, primarily those driving habitat

loss, introduction of exotic species, and global warming”.

Discuss whether or not humans should strive to preserve representative samples of all biomes on

the planet.

As humans preserving these biomes will be beneficial for our future generations. As our

economy continue to rise and the homes we build, amusements parks and etc. the more trees we

have to clear which means less space the animals and plants have. And “with the

large numbers

of animals threatened with

extinction

and not enough money to go around, conservationists face

the difficult choice of deciding which to save”

Owen, N. (2014). That’s why it’s important for us

as human to preserve because it’s a choice between the two.
