A3 problem solving is a format created by Toyota, the automobile manufacturing company. It is a method of laying down proposals of actions and reporting of the approved actions for the problem. Since this was all maintained on an A3 sized paper, hence the name given as A3 problem-solving. It is simple to use and to follow up on the issues for the end-user. It consists of sections of information. The first section consists of the problem situation, which talks about the background of the issue, and what is the standardized process around it, and it also gives information on the current stage of the situation. It also talks about any discrepancies and the extent of the problem at various levels, thus it means there is a requirement to understand the problem's importance, urgency, and impact. The next section talks about Target that should be specific in mentioning the amount of change required to be seen and the time frame for the same to achieve. There is a section of Theme which is just a sentence long, mentioning the essence of achieving the goal. The next section is of the cause analysis that requires searching for all the possible causes and identifying the real causes. The next section is to search for the possible remedies, with proper brainstorming and then finally, the selection of the remedies after careful evaluation. The next section talks about the implementation, here the plan is created, communicated, and carried out. The last section is the follow-up section talks about the result evaluation and states what, how, and when things to be checked.
