Some have argued that removing government controls that keep food prices down is a necessary step to ensure food security

This might happen because with the rise in food prices, the farmers would like to supply more to capture the benefits of the increased price as more is supplied at higher prices. In order to supply more farmers will try to increase the productivity and will resort to measures which will put extra pressure on the same piece of the land like increasing the use of fertilizers, over irrigation,growing multiple crops in a year, growing crops which have high yield in regions where they usually do not grow in those climatic conditions, swithing to commercial farming etc. All these steps will lead to over use of the soil deteorating the quality of the soil and making it prone to erosion as soil start to loosen up with the over use and over irrigation.
