Health Sector Policy Change Proposal

For your final paper, identify a real world healthcare operation where a particular outcome is needed for the purpose of analyzing the initiative and creating a proposal to advocate for change.

To put it another way: 1) pick a real world healthcare operation 2) pick an outcome that organization is looking for or should be looking for(advancing some part of its mission or purpose) 3) what change would need to take place to make that outcome happen? What "Policy" (Public Policy) would need to be changed? 4) create the proposal to make the change.

You are meant to identify a change that is needed in a real world healthcare topic - then propose that change and layout the plan to get there.  The topic/subject matter is far less important than the proposal itself. The assignment has 10 bullet points to hit. A small internal operation change within one organization is probably not going to lend itself to being able to hit all of those points, but I'm sure there are some concepts that would. It will be easier to hit of the assignment points if you are looking at a larger public policy change, something that requires a change in regulatory policy or new state or federal legislation.

Helpful hint: Look at the 10 bullet points, if you can't address each of them in your proposal, you can't get those points. So, for example bullet 4: an overview of the professional organizations or associations, regulatory agencies and state laws involved - if your proposal doesn't affect any regulatory agencies, professional orgs or state laws - you're going to miss out and you're probably not looking at a big enough impact.

The change proposal needs to address all the following,

    • Identification of the change initiative and organizational background information;
    • justification for the needed change;
    • key stakeholders involved;
    • an overview of the professional organization or association, regulatory agency, and state laws involved;
    • the procedures and practices involved;
    • the ethical considerations;
    • a proposed change including changes to policies, procedures, and/or practices;
    • the impact on stakeholders resulting from the change; and
    • ways in which you would influence, advocate, and lobby for the proposed change.

The proposal should be written as an academic paper using concepts from the course materials and research using relevant and credible resources. All citations and the reference list should follow APA writing style guidelines. In addition, students are expected to design a “quick pitch” in order to articulate and advocate as if in the position of a healthcare administrator. (SLO 1-4)

This paper should be 6-8 pages.
