  1. You have already learned about winds and ocean currents from previous chapter readings and video episodes.  This week you will also be learning about waves and tides.   The purpose of the forum this week is to develop a class discussion on the possibility of using these ocean properties as a source of clean renewable energy.

Do some research on ONE of the following topics.

    • Offshore wind energy
    • Ocean current energy
    • Ocean wave energy
    • Tidal power

There is a lot of information available about these topics, so you should not have any trouble finding sources.  Here are a few to get you started:

https://www.boem.gov/Renewable-Energy-Program-Overview/ (Links to an external site.)

https://www.eia.gov/energyexplained/hydropower/tidal-power.php (Links to an external site.)

Directions for your post: Choose ONE of the above topics and post your discussion following these criteria:

    1. Briefly describe how the energy source that you chose works.  Remember to write about just ONE.
    2. Answer the questions: In your opinion, is it a good idea and should we develop it along the southern California coastline? Why or why not?  What are the pros and cons?  Remember...you are giving your informed opinion here, not someone else's.
    3. Reply to two classmates respectfully stating why you agree or disagree with them.
    4. Your primary post should be a minimum of 200 words and your replies to classmates should be a minimum of 100 words each.
    5. As always, you must cite your sources, but DO NOT include quoted passages.  Your 200-word post must be entirely your writing, opinion, and thoughts  based on what you know after doing your research.
