Two goods are given, that is, food and clothing. In order to derive the demand curve, consumer's equilibrium is considered. It is the tangency condition, where indifference curve (IC) is tangent to the budget line. At this tangency point, slope of IC is equal to the slope of budget line. Slope of IC is the marginal rate of substitution (MRS), whereas the slope of budget lien is equal to the price ratio. So, tangency condition is:
