The lottery system is a way to raise money for the government. Lotteries affect both microeconomics and macroeconomics. Governments raise billions of dollars by issuing lottery tickets which are invested in the health and education sectors and infrastructure development. This affects the economy as a whole.

Lotteries change people's mindset because they make earning money without having to work attractive to people. It is mostly the low wage earners that hope to win money in this manner. It can, however, be argued that the money raised by the government from selling lottery tickets is used to grow the economy. The people who pay for lottery tickets get products and services in return.
