Step 1 Watch and take notes during this video
|
Step 1 Watch and take notes during this video. 1) Watch and take notes during the following video - Tedx - Stop Trying to Motivate Your Employees. It’s a misconception that you can motivate your employees. They’re already motivated. The key is to unleash their motivation. The Founder of Aperio Consulting Group, Kerry Goyette takes a deeper dive into motivation, how to leverage it, and the counterproductive motivations that may be holding us back from success. https://youtu.be/7lhVUedc1a4 (Links to an external site.) Step 2 Post the following. Respond to ALL of the following, and if appropriate, include personal experience as part of your answers. Cite your resources and put quotation marks around direct quotes to support your opinions. You may also refer back to information in the textbook to support your opinions. 1) According to the speaker in the video - she says that you should hire for motivational fit for the job. Explain what she is referring to along with a specific example. 2) The speaker talks about 2 different types of motivation - describe these along with an example of each. 3) Instead of asking how do I motivate my employees - you are asking the wrong question - they are already motivated - how do I unleash it. What are some ways to "unleash" motivation in employees? 4) Provide a one to two sentence summary with your biggest insight or take-away from this video. Step 3 Read and respond to other students' posts.Comment on the thoughts expressed by at least two other students. If differences of opinion occur, debate and support your viewpoint professionally, citing references and resources appropriately. |

Expert Solution
- When speaking about motivational fit she means that you want someone that can offer the right kind of motivation to the team. When considering hiring someone you might be looking for someone that will have the motivation style that they put the companies interests first and think about decisions based upon how they would affect the company.
- Positive motivations are those which are productive for us while negative motivations are counterproductive. In the video Kerry uses Charlie Sheen as an example of someone who has negative motivations, they have tons of potential, but they bring a lot of counterproductive motivation with them. An example of someone who has positive motivations would be someone that is able to bring good connections to the team and allow for everything to become more productive.
- Ways to unleash motivation in employees would be to give them problems that relate to what motivates them. An example would be if someone is a very ambitious person you would want to give them tasks that allow them to be ambitious. It is important to understand the motivation within your employees and to then tap into that and truly “unleash” it.
- The key takeaway from me is being able to notice the motivations that people have and to take that into account when interacting. Like her example of “Bob” in the video, it makes me realize that I may not have always understood how to engage someone into caring about a problem.
