You are the Human Resources Management team of a mid-sized fitness equipment manufacturing plant, called "Pump You Up". The executive has come to you with several problems that are evident on the shop floor. They have requested that you explainthe report with your proposals as to how to address the issues. Pump You Up (PYU) has approximately 200 employees of which 125 work directly on the shop floor. There has been a huge surge in home fitness equipment in the last six months and the production is running at full capacity. The executive is concerned that there have been rumblings on the shop floor that people are burnt out and unhappy. Morale seems to be at an all-tim e low, and the managers are unable to address problems that come to them as they just do not have the time. The executive is not sure how many staff they will need to ensure that the orders get out the door, they also do not want to have to lay off people if demand drops.
Employees are now stating that they believe that they should be getting paid more as their skills are in great demand. Several of your small electrical motor technicians have resigned to go to your competitor as they offered a better compensation package. The shippers and receivers have threatened to quit if the motor technicians get paid more as they believe that they are equally as skilled.
Two managers have come to you and notified you that five female employees are filing a human rights complaint because they feel that they have been discriminated against. Three of the five female employees applied on a recent posting for a motor technician position and were not hired. The manager hired his next-door neighbor whom did not interview for the position, the manager felt that he knew the individual well enough. The mangers have also complained that they cannot find qualified candidates in this hot employment market and do not have time to train unskilled employees
