Please submit your experiment article critique AND a pdf copy of the article you chose
Please submit your experiment article critique AND a pdf copy of the article you chose.
For this assignment, you may choose your own article to critique. Please choose a peer-reviewed article that uses an experimental methodology and submit a pdf copy of the article with your critique.
An article critique requires you to critically read a piece of research (here it is experimental or quasi-experimental study method) and identify and evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the published paper (according to the rubric guidelines).
Before you start writing, you will need to take some steps to get ready for your critique:
- Choose an article that meets the criteria outlined by your instructor.
- Read the article to get an understanding of the main idea concerning causality (cause-effect relationships).
- Read the article again with a critical eye to identify threats to validity. Is there plausible alternative explanations to the observed findings? What could have accounted for the observed results?
As you read, take note of the following:
- Are the chosen research methods appropriate to answer the research question(s) on experimental and quasi-experimental designs (in terms of treatment and control groups, randomization to treatment)?
- How was the evidence adduced to conclude that the intervention or the program activities actually resulted in the observed findings?
- Are there issues (internal validity, external validity, construct validity) related to the generalizability of the results?
- What was the nature of the study design to rule out alternative explanations of the observed findings?
- How will this design enhance the internal validity of the study's causal conclusions?
- Did the author/s ground their research in hypothesis (ses) theory and previous literature or any conceptual, theoretical/causal framework?
- How are the conceptual or the theoretical frameworks applied relevant to the study.
- Note the distinguishing features of experimental design, paying great attention to design notations.
- Was there additional evidence to suggest other factors (besides the intervention) might have caused the program results? Why or why not? And how are the construct validity related to internal validity of the study chosen?
- How were threats to internal validity assessed and addressed?
Then you could organize your write-ups as follows
i. Introduction
ii. Summary
iii. Critique of the Analysis
iv. Conclusion
Please, avoid copying or re-writing any section or sections of the critique paper directly from the paper. All writings must be in your (owned) words and not directly quoted. All quotes (if necessary) must be paraphrased and the source or sources cited appropriately (in APA style of formatting). Please, I do not accept direct quotes (just paraphrase and cite your source or sources).
