Chromosomes are truly the most intriguing topic we are studying from my perspective. Personally, I found this subject interesting as a family member of mine was born with Williams Syndrome. It is a genetic condition that occurs at a rate of approximately one in every 5,000 people (although estimates vary to 1 in every 10,000 people sometimes). However, it's very difficult to diagnose, as there is little information out there in regards to the missing chromosome on the Y axis that. Genetic testing must be done to see if the syndrome is present. William Syndrome affects the heart, the brain and blood circulation. The Y chromosome is crucial to understanding William Syndrome. In order to educate myself, I went to William Syndrome Association website and watched numerous videos on Chromosomes and genetics. There are so many tools present which one can use to educate themself. In order to gain knowledge on the topic I took many notes trying to understand where William Syndrome comes from. I went on Facebook to learn and talk with other people who have William Syndrome and I was hoping to better understand what their day to day life is like. Our textbook, "Essentials of Physical Anthropology" on page 61 goes into great description of autosomes and sex chromosomes too. In my family members case the autosomes carries genetic information that helps us learn about Williams Syndrome. In order to best combat genetic illnesses, it's important to understand the workings and complex matters of chromosomes.
