Create a theory of mate selection.

Your theory should explain why most (not all) couples form relationships with the particular partner combinations that they do. In other words, your theory should explain why most people end up with the long-term partner that they do.
Your theory should explain the full relationship process, from first meeting to marriage. [Remember that a good theory explains the general patterns; don't focus on relationships that you think are exceptions!]
