Governance/Enterprise Strategies/Project Team Personnel
Complete the readings this week and review the IT Strategic Plan, Part 1 assignment before completing this week’s discussion.
Choose one of the following and develop two well-researched paragraphs:
- Why is it important to have the senior leadership/management of an organization involved in the IT governance process? Identify at least three senior positions found in most organizations and explain why it is important for that person to be a part of the IT governance process.
- What are two or three different ways that the IT governance group could determine how to prioritize IT projects?
- What are the key steps that the CIO should take to develop an IT Strategic Plan for the organization?
For this week, each member of Group 2 should create a main posting by Saturday midnight, and each member of Groups 1, 3 & 4 should respond to at least two class members by Tuesday midnight. Since this is a "discussion," you should check back to see if I or anyone in the class have a question for you or make a comment to which you wish to respond.
Please review the Grading Rubric located in the Discussions area to see how discussion participation will be graded, and note that, if you are doing the primary response, you need to reply back to classmates who post in your thread, and if you are in the groups replying, "more than 2" replies are needed to receive full points (a grade of "A").
Please ensure you cite in APA format, any sources you have used in your posting.

When developing a IT strategy plan, it is basically the same to developing a normal strategic plan. The first step is to create a mission statement. The goal of the mission statement is to state how the workforce of the IT department and their computing strategy relates to business objectives. The CIO would want to thins how can their Strategic Business Plan is supported by the IT department in their company (Johnson,2012). Another key step to developing a IT Strategy plan is the focus on the development of the long-range business and technology outlook for the organization. In most companies, the teams in the company would review the corporate businesses strategies, technology trends and the employee trends to better understand the future environment that will shape the IT organizations and its deliverables (Haydamack,2008).
An Effective IT plan would include information on the people, staffing, partnerships, changes in the organization, and governance required to achieve business outcomes. It can also include an investment portfolio roadmap, timeframes, goals, and a discussion of risks and other issues (Overby,2017). Creating schedules and budgets and Implementation of the IT strategic planning process would be key steps also for the CIO to take when it comes to developing a IT strategy plan. The final key step to developing a IT strategy plan is Benchmarking. At the end of this process it is very important to evaluate the results and compare them with the organizational objectives defined in the previous phases of the IT strategy plan (Heflo,2017).
