The purpose of government is to provide us with a couple of different things. The first being to dispute regulations. Here justice and fairness are not the same thing. It is an overall consensus to do what is right for the common good. They determine pre-conflict  (things like laws that are put into place beforehand) and post-conflict (things that have happened after the fact and two parties can not agree on) issues. This also ensures a high economic use.  They help with the protection of property rights to the extent of someone who own their own property may do with it what they will to a certain extent (it would draw the line on where it is harming others or possible wildlife/ the environment). They provide us with public goods which we pay for in taxes like police forces or public parks. They give us economic stability so that if people who enter into business contracts or agreements have certain protections. Lastly they provide us with social stability, this gives us the reassurance that we are working towards a safer economy/place to live and security in those things as well.

The legal system ensures that there is fairness that is decided upon and looks at the well-being of the overall population that it would affect and not necessarily the individual. It has many different levels that ensure that this fairness is decided upon at the appropriate level that the system is working in.
