Specific Guidelines for this Discussion

In Chapter 22, "On Becoming an Excellent Rewriter," Dinty Moore talks about the need for revising in a thorough way, where a goal is that "[n]othing remains in your essay [ . . . ] unless it serves the purpose of the essay that is taking shape on the page" (221). He recommends three approaches or modes of thinking about revising: The Child, The Adult, and The Parent (223-225).

After reading/reviewing the chapter, please respond to one of the following prompts:

• Please write about a specific writing project you worked on--perhaps for a class, for a professional situation, or a self-motivated project--where you feel you implemented successful revising or rewriting habits. Did you use any of the methods Moore recommends in Chapter 22? What made your revising of the work successful, in your view?
• Please write about a specific writing project (academic, professional, or self-motivated) where you feel you did not use effective habits of revising, and discuss how reading Chapter 22 may assist you in returning to that project (or could assist you if you were to return to it).
• Please write about how you hope to revise your Memoir Essay (here in WR 323) using one or more of the approaches to revision that Dinty Moore recommends. Please discuss specifically how you hope to implement the Moore-recommended method.
