The film "China Blue" gives us some insight into current labor conditions in Chinese factories. Do you think such conditions violate one or more principles of human rights?   • The labor conditions from the film "China Blue" gives us some insight into how some human rights are violated due to economic pressure. Some of the principles of human rights include dignity, fairness, equality, respect and independence. Some of these principles are violated in this film in that the workers are treated unfairly by being overworked and paid little wages that are paid in delay.The conditions of the dormitories are overcrowded and the workers health is violated since they are deprived of enough sleep.
  • Applying a "universal" notion of human rights to cross-cultural situations is challenged by factors like weak institutions, poverty and global inequities, discrimination, violence and democracy deficits. In this case the main challenges are weak institutions, poverty and global inequalities.The factory does not have policies to protect its workers and poverty conditions cause the workers to seek employment in the factory and inequalities in the global economy cause the factory owner to exploit his workers since he has few choices. China Blue clearly illustrates the conditions in the factory and also how they're linked to the global market's cut-throat competition. This is where we see how the American and European corporations negotiate up to their last penny with the Chinese company. Moreover, this shows how often the buyers inflict tight time limits. This is what pushes the factory to increase Jeans production to reach the deadlines set.
  • This film highlights the injustices which deprive underdeveloped nations of the impoverished members of society. Many responsible for passing policies look only at certain laws that serve their own interests and never look into the plight of the society's underprivileged citizens. Aside from policies that cheat these people from basis working rights, consumers have a huge responsibility to make an effort in finding clothes and/or products that are sourced from reliable sources that provide proper humans rights to the manufactures. Although, from previous research, this has been proven to be very difficult as many retailers shares little to no information regarding the conditions the clothes come from and many reliable sources can be expensive. I think its important to make the effort to seek out reliable sourced clothes/products. Fair trade Certified products is a great place to start.
