You are on the observation deck of the Empire State Building on a clear, beautiful day.  Below you the hustle and bustle of New York City reminds you of lifting up rocks as a child and watching the insects scurry around looking for food.  In the distance you see sail boats in the harbor, so small they look like cheerios at breakfast.  Everything you see is distorted by the vast distance.

Do you believe that the people and cars had actually shrunk down to the size of insects?  Of course you do not, you know that they are just appearing that way due to the distance you are perceiving them at.  This idea of size consistency allows us to recognize that an objects size remains the same even though it may appear to be smaller or larger because of distance.  This is a skill we begin to develop early on in our lives and do not think much of normally, but what if our environment did not allow us to develop size consistency fully.  Please read the Turnbull (1961) article Some Observations regarding the Experiences and Behavior of the BaMbuti Pygmies.  Write a summary of the article and how the pygmy’s experience related to size consistency.
