It can be difficult raising a child by yourself but with the right people in your life it is not impossible. Before my daughter I never relied on anyone for anything, I was always scared they would let me down. My mother-in-law changed my point of view though. It was a Tuesday night; my daughter and I had gotten out of the bath and were getting ready for bed when had noticed an abscess. It was red and inflamed so I rushed her to OU children’s hospital scared not knowing what had happened to my baby. Ezra got admitted because she wasn’t eaten, and she needed medication through an IV drip. I was so scared and alone, I hadn’t had sleep in over 24 hours at that point. I was crying to my daughter’s dad when I got a phone call. It was my mother-in-law, Conception. Conception was calling to tell me she had taken off work and was on her way up to the hospital so I could have a break. Immediately when she got there, I wrapped my arms around and started balling, I was scared, and exhausted. She wiped eyes and lifted my head and said, “I’m here now” “go take you a break”. My mother-in -law coming to help me with my daughter is why I believe it takes a village to raise a child.
