Title: Impact of additive manufacturing within Production

Background and Rationale: Additive manufacturing, also known as AM or 3D printing, brings many benefits and drawbacks to a company. The technology sector has proliferated, and finding new ways to manufacture products at a higher efficiency and lower cost is a significant value proposition for companies. Additive manufacturing is almost four decades old, but since the business world is becoming more technology-centered, additive manufacturing is making its way to becoming the next big thing (McClintock, 2019). Companies exploring this style are starting to realize that additive manufacturing is rewriting the rules for Production. The benefits of additive manufacturing are that it removes design limits, the materials will always be available, and much more (Challenges and Benefits of additive manufacturing 2022). Many argue that the equipment used to print out the products can be costly. Since 3D printing can be expensive to implement, many companies may need help to afford the high cost of obtaining expensive equipment. Instead, they can utilize older injection molds to manufacture the product. Many challenges can be argued, but the company is the one who would decide whether they see an increase in their production line. Additive manufacturing has allowed companies to do what used to be impossible. Many companies can create products much faster, creating a new wave of efficiency (Saetre, Development of Additive Manufacturing Technology). Additive manufacturing is starting to take over almost all businesses around the world. Additive Manufacturing is currently in the transportation, healthcare, and education industries. Throughout the research, benefits, and drawbacks, examples, different companies that utilize AM, and much more to research.
