Respond to the following 2 peers:

peer 1:

1) I learned that childhood stressors such as abuse and neglect harms the function of the nucleus accumbens which provides a susceptibility to substance dependence. I also learned that the childhood trauma alone increases the risk for health problems from the frequent activation of the bodies stress response system. 2) I believe that psychotherapy checkups should be more frequent for children, as most get yearly physicals. This would allow for more insight on the childs mental growth and provide an opportunity for intervention. Mental health records would allow for more accurate diagnosis and treatment in the future with mental conditions. The main challenge is that this is voluntary and available already, but most parents don't see it as valueable enough. I think that further education on the effects of childhood trauma will show parents that their children's mental and physical state should be valued equally. 3) I was suprised to learn that part of the brains reward system is damaged by childhood trauama, as i'm trying to imagine what scenario would provoke this effect.

peer 2:

The video was shocking although it was another reference that supported a lot of things I had heard elsewhere. I had no idea there was a correlation between childhood stress and hormonal imbalances. I also learned that mental health strongly influences physical health. These findings definitely make a parent's responsibility even more serious. Mental health is tricky. We do not want the government messing with families unless it is necessary. This needs to be placed on the family. Hospitals and clinics need to be careful not to cross a line into personal and family responsibilities unless necessary. These facts show how important a good family dynamic is. A safe, strong home leads to strong, healthy, and valuable citizens. I was also not aware how common childhood trauma is. I was shocked by the number of children that suffer so much trauma.
