An elderly Cree man who is the community ceremonialist and traditional healer in his Cree community has been prescribed an oxygen tank, which he calls the "machine that makes air." His wife and granddaughter (who now live in the city) have a conver- sation about their concerns. They are concerned about the impact that his health condition will have on his community position and responsibilities. The film de- picts three problems: (a) the social roles in compliance, (b) the conflict between generations, and (c) the inner tension between loyalty to the Cree healer's cere- monial position and his own health.
