Despite strong evidence that racial inequalities exist at the level of social structure, the idea that racial discrimination stems from individual behavior tends to persist. Why do you believe it is hard for some people to recognize stuctural inequalities involving race and class? Be sure to use sociological vocabulary and concepts in your response.

As you learned in our unit on Social Structure and Social Interaction, every person has a status set, which is the collection of all the social positions they occupy. Race is one example of an ascribed status, while social class is a status that can be ascribed or achieved. The concept of intersectionality holds that race, class, gender, and other social identities do not exist in isolation, but rather overlap and intersect with one another in important and consequential ways. Describe how you see the intersection of race and class. How do these two social identities interact with one another?
