Imagine that you are a speech and hearing professional and must provide an in-service training for the nursing staff in a skilled nursing facility regarding the provision of services to the residents with hearing loss.  The material should be presented at a level of difficulty that is appropriate for the audience and done in a way that maintains interest and attention.  You may also wish to use visual materials and hands-on teaching aids.  The goals of an in-service training are to:

1. Provide basic information about hearing loss and hearing aids
2. Develop empathy for the patient who has hearing loss
3. Teach strategies for enhancing communication with patients
