1. 1. Open-ended questions because it allows for a more natural conversation, and can give more information on one single prompt (Parkes, 2022).

   2. Clarification would be used because it means you seeking to understand a statement by the patient. This also gives you the information that you need for accurate documentation (Parkes, 2022). 

   3. Active listening is important because maintaining good posture, eye contact, and other physical techniques helps the patient understand that you are focused on the patient and developing rapport (Parkes, 2022).

3. How would you use therapeutic use of self to establish a relationship with Jasmine? 

   1. I would first want to maintain privacy (Srivastava, 2015). I believe this is important because patients have the right to talk to a healthcare provider in private environments knowing conversations are confidential. After establishing this, I would continue to be an advocate and listening ear to Jasmine (Srivastava, 2015). This would help with establishing trust with the patient. The nurse has to understand that their personal bias cannot interfere with/or project onto the patient (Srivastava, 2015). 

4. Choose Peplau's preconceptions to anticipate barriers Jasmine may encounter in the ED?

   1. A preconception of Jasmine might be her beliefs about healthcare (Gonzalo, 2023). This can impact the communication aspect that Jasmine has, with the nurse or any healthcare provider. The stigma that could affect this relationship is that nurses and healthcare providers know more than others (Gonzalo, 2023). This would be identified in the identification phase (Gonzalo, 2023).

5. Before Jasmine leaves she states, "Thank you for everything. I feel like we became friends." How will you define the relationship with Jasmine?

   1. Jasmine has a very open and comfortable relationship, although boundaries need to be placed. This means that the nurse needs to make it clear to Jasmine that she can be an advocate but cannot be friends.
