The Carrier-Sense Multiple Access with Collision Avoidance (CSMA-CA) protocol used in IEEE 802.11 LAN uses an exponential back-off scheme which is widely considered to be unfair. Give reasons and explain why it is so. Explain how Multiple Access with Collision Avoidance for Wireless (MACAW) protocol solves this unfairness problem? Do the techniques that are suggested in MACAW specification work well under any network condition? Explain why or why not.
