Section A carries 40% of the marks available. Question Case Summary Within the module, you have been studying a case presentation that integrates a range of techniques used in the histological and molecular investigation of a cancer. You have already reviewed in your coursework the histology of the patient’s cancer and drawn conclusions from biomarker expression revealed by immunohistochemistry. The composite image above shows the results of an investigation of a secondary breast cancer found in patient’s liver. An initial assessment of the biopsy using an antibody against HER2 gave the result shown in C. Therefore, a CISH (DDISH) test was ordered and the result is shown in D. Referring to the information shown in the figure, evaluate the principle of the “HER-2 testing” algorithm and its application to the treatment of patients.
