The team of researchers at Opportunity Insights (https://opportunityinsights.org/) has recently produced evidence showing that a child's neighborhood can have a causal effect on outcomes. Some neighborhoods are “high opportunity," meaning that a child has a good chance at upward mobility, while other neighborhoods are "low opportunity," meaning that a child has little chance at upward mobility. Upward mobility is a defining feature of the American Dream but this dream is fading.
