You are expected to write a paper of around 3500 words on any of these areas of research listed below.

Your paper must be well-structured and referenced using Harvard Referencing System.

There should be some data analysis using very simple empirical methods. You can apply means and/or variance tests if need be, some of which you would have learnt in Economic Statistics (EC203). You are also free to use econometric analysis if you are familiar with it taught in EC303.

  1. Research Area:

· International labour mobility;

· Labour mobility among pacific island countries;

· Labour mobility and economic growth;

· Barriers to labour mobility in the pacific;

· Internal labour mobility in developed countries;

· Push and pull factor in labour mobility;

· Wages rates in PICs;

· Wage rates and productivity;

· Labour mobility; productivity and wage rates;

· Influence of technology on labour productivity;

· Labour mobility in the new world order;

· Future of work.

 

  1. Structure of the Paper (The paper is worth 20% of the course).

Your paper must have the following sections/parts.

· Title of the paper

· Abstract of about 250-300 words describing the intended analysis, some statements on the methodology, the result and the implications of the findings.

· Introduction of the paper of about a page and half providing the gist of the research, the existence of the problem you intend to research on including the motivation for the research and the economic implications of the problem or issues you intend to analyze.

· Literature review should provide the existing literature on the issues you are trying to analyze.

In the last para of this section you need to say what you intend to find by this research or data analysis.

· Methodology section of the paper should describe the nature of you analysis. You may use graphical methods, or data analysis of averages etc. You may use mathematical logic or econometric analysis as it may suit your current level of skills and knowledge.

· Data Analysis showing tabulated data and the associated analysis.

· Results sections of the paper describes your findings

· Conclusion and Policy Recommendations section of the paper should provide your conclusion (based on your findings) and make statements about policy to address the problem.

· List of references must include all the work/s you have cited.

Originality – Your grade (marks) for this work will largely depend upon the originality and quality of your paper.
