Assignment:

Write a two-page concert report on the live stream video.

Guidelines:

1. Indicate when and who you heard
2. List the musicians in the group and what instruments they played
3. If song titles were announced, indicate the names of these pieces (when they were not, try and pick songs that contrasted with one another or styles like ballad, latin, etc.)
4. Listen for techniques discussed in class that were used by the different instrumentalists (walking bass, comping, swing ride rhythms, latin feel, rubato, etc)
5. Try to listen for forms of songs like 32 AABA or 12 bar blues discussed in class
6. Pay close attention to the musicians onstage and communication or lack thereof between them
7. Try to relate some of the things you heard to things discussed in class so far (possible style of jazz, reminding you of something we listened to in class, Listening to Jazz video)
8. Comment on your overall experience (both good and bad) and the music you heard
9. Use correct grammar, paragraph and sentence structure and proper tenses in your paper
10. Proofread!

Suggestions:

1. In first paragraph describe when and who you heard-list instruments and names
2. Pick out 3 or 4 songs that were different from one another and write about those in the body of your paper
3. Comment on similarities or differences with anything discussed, watched or listened to in class
4. Use your own writing style and past experiences in music to describe what you heard
5. In the last paragraph or two describe your overall experience and the music
6. Touch on some of the techniques of each instrument demonstrated in class
7. Use your own individual writing style to make your paper interesting and unique
