a research paper rough draft

Writing

a research paper rough draft. In class we had to pick a problem/ issue that makes us apart of that community. I have chosen the cosmetic industry. In the word document that I have attached to this, it explains in there my reasons. The professor has also, attached her notes to the first question in the attached file. I have attached her comment below.

Remember that your final product will need to include both your explanation and examination of the problem and a possible solution that you're posing to the specific audience you're targeting. Each aspect should be supported with quality, credible evidence.

Professor comment: I think a little bit more clarity about the specific problem will be helpful as you move forward. For example, do you think the popularity is a problem? Do you think the expense is a problem? Is there some other problem within the industry that you want to focus on? Once your problem is clearly defined, you will likely be better able to identify a specific audience to target and a specific solution to pose.

An explanation of the problem/issue you've decided to research and write about The problem/ issue I have decided to research about is the cosmetic industry. I will be researching about why it has become so popular over time, because this industry has grown fast and is expensive. It influences women of all ages. 1. An explanation of why this problem/issue matters to you This issue matters to me because growing up I have always been into makeup and I have noticed the changes in it. It has gone up in pricing, in social media, it has created careers. It changes the way people look. Some would call it catfishing. 2. An explanation of any context and/or history you already know (or think you know) about the problem/issue before you begin conducting in-depth research A little history that I know about this issue is that make- up was used to attract a mate. Women used make- up to stand out of a crowd of other women, to see if which male would notice them. I also know that eyeliner was used in the middle east or like in Egypt to help people with seeing through the daytime. Because they didn’t have sunglasses to protect their eyes from the sun so, they would use eyeliner. 3. An explanation of how this problem/issue relates to a community you belong to This issue relates to a community I belong to because young women always want the best for their skin/ face. This industry has grown so much that the marketing for the “best item” to have makes these young ladies want it. Some of these women are still in college and might or might not be working so they can’t afford it. Some become insecure or have self- esteem issues. Social media can make it worst for them because it starts to portray an image to them. Women also have favorite celebrities and if they see them with the newest cosmetic item, then they are going to want it just because they have it. 4. An explanation of why you think it's important to prioritize solving this problem I think it is important to solve this issue because we are always having new generations coming into this world, and recently I have noticed a change in my generation compared to the current generation. For an example, 15 year old girls look like they are about 18 because of the power of make- up. I am sure for genetic reasons too, but it is easy to change your facial identity with 5. make- up. Some girls don’t need it, and some apply to much that it changes them. An explanation of what solution you're thinking about posing for this problem and why you think that's the correct resolution for the issue (you might change your mind as you do more research, but what are you thinking right now?) I think there should be an age limit of when it is ok for a young women to buy make up. I also think there should be a change in pricing of it. I think it should be like food (organic foods/ non- organic) organic make- up should be a little more than non- organic make- up. I know the drug store use of make is cheaper, but even than when I first started to wear it, I wasn’t paying $9 dollars for a mascara or eyeliner. 6. An explanation of who your audience is for this argument and how you know that's the correct audience (this might necessitate conducting some light preliminary research to learn about your target audience, how they connect to the problem/issue, how they make decisions, how they communicate, etc) The audience for this argument is for the cosmetic companies and for the young generation. I know these two are the best audience for this research project because they are the ones I want to grab their attention. 7. An explanation of what information you think you'll need to collect in order to articulate the problem and its importance to your audience The information that I believe I will need to collect for this issue is the history of make- up, the impact it has on society, and if social media plays a role in it? 8. An explanation of the different types of sources (such as interviews, documentaries, academic journal articles, newspaper articles, etc) you think you might need to review in order describe your problem and a possible solution I think I would need documentaries, articles, and maybe a youtube video. 9. 10. A few research questions that you think will help you to begin the research process Why is the cosmetic industry expensive? Which audience is the cosmetic industry focusing on? How has this industry changed over time? Why have those changes occurred? Does social media play a role in it?
