The North and South were the two major parts of the US in the 1800s. The South had farms, while the North had factories. The North was more crowded and had a bigger population. Slavery had died out in the North while the population in the South was a big number.

The economies of the North and the South were different. The economy of the North was pretty good because of the railroad tracks. This made transportation easier, which made the economy better. On the other hand, the southern economy was behind. Farms and slavery impeded the development of industries and cities. This made the economy of the South be bad.
