Hospital/Clinic Comparison Profile: Health Care Professions and Hospitals (Ch 2 and 3 and ch 10) Due October 25: 75 points total

You are given a city in MN below:

and the hospital is ESSENTIA HEALTH VIRGINIA

Part A: Hospital

First, go to MN hospitals to find what hospital is in your assigned city. https://www.mnhospitals.org/mn-hospitals/find-a-hospital?Links to an external site.

If you are in a city with more than 1 hospital, list the number of hospitals in the write up but chose one hospital to complete the rest of the assignment.

With your selected hospital go to their website – I would just google to find. Navigate to their “About” Page. Using information from the website and terms from the textbook (Ch 3), what type of hospital is it? Do they have any other hospitals in MN? How big is it? What are the different departments? Do not copy and paste from the website but write one paragraph in your own words describing the hospital.

Go to Hospital Compare, type your city and find your hospital, chose one other hospital to compare. Explore their quality rankings: https://www.medicare.gov/care-compare/?providerType=Hospital&redirect=true. Links to an external site.

*If your hospital doesn't have enough data to compare please look at MN health score.

http://www.mnhealthscores.org/hospital-quality-patient-experience-ratings. Links to an external site.

Using 3 metrics of your choosing from Hospital Compare make a bar graph to show the comparison between the two hospitals in Excel.

Given this information you show graphically in (4) would you chose to seek care at the hospital you chose in (1) or the comparison hospital? Why or why not?

Part B: Clinics

Using the hospital you chose in part 1, are there any clinics affiliated? Chose a clinic. Using their website, what type of services do they offer? Is it just primary care or specialty care?

Go to MN health scores http://www.mnhealthscores.org/. Links to an external site. and select clinic quality ratings

Click compare quality ratings and chose 3 health care topic to compare to compare 2 clinics in your city (I would type the city name into the “find by name” field, there is a location search option but it has a bug and doesn’t work very well – otherwise you can google map to find a second clinic)

Using 3 metrics from MN Health Score make a bar graph to show the comparison in Excel.

Given this information you show graphically in (3) which clinic would you chose to go to for care? Why or why not?

Structure of Paper

Part A: Hospital

Para 1: Describe the Hospital (1 and 2)

Para 2: About the hospital quality, describing the graph you have created for the assignment (what metrics you chose), compare and contrast the 2 hospitals (3 and 4)

Para 3: Describe why you chose the hospital using the data presented in Para 1 and Para 2 (5)

Part B:  Clinic

Para 1: Describe the clinic  (1)

Para 2: Describe each clinic quality measures (what do they actually mean not just the short description), describing the graph you have created for the assignment (what metrics you chose), compare and contrast the 2 clinics (3 and 4)

Para 3: Describe why you chose the clinic using the data presented in Para 1 and Para 2 (5)

Information on graphs:

You can include the graphs either in the body of the paper or at the end, your choice. They should be made in excel with appropriate titles, labels, axes titles, easy to read, then can be copied into Word for submission as one document.

*NOTE IF YOU ARE MEASURING 3 DIFFERENT UNITS (e.g. %; # of minutes; # of patients) please use separate graphs - do not try to put them on the same graph.

Information on references: Please include any references to websites at the end- I do not care what format you use- just be consistent and make sure to include any information that would help me find the resource again if need be
