Instructions

a written Design report based on a case study.

This document outlines the requirements of the written report, which comprises 50% of the total mark for this assessment. Please carefully read the following network scenario.

Network Scenario:

Suppose you are a network administrator of the ABC company. The company runs an online business based on North Sydney, Australia. The company faced a new problem during the pandemic. The purchase during the peak hours (9am-6pm) has become 10 times higher compared to the rest of the day. The e-commerce website receives on average 100 transaction per second by the users whereas the Google hits are around 50000 per second. As a temporary solution, you have implemented a locking mechanism that keeps customers in the queue before processing their requests. Customers are not happy and frustrated as they have to wait for a long time to place an order. You considered other solutions such as buying more servers, but it is not feasible since the company is in tight budget. Then, you come up with an idea and budget to migrate to cloud computing. You have decided to use the Azure cloud platform since the budget is reasonable for the required services. Now, you task is to prepare a proposal for cloud migration including the following details.

Your proposal should be written using the following report structure.

Report Structure

Introduction (125 words):

In the Introduction, you are attempting to inform the reader about the rationale behind the work. The introduction does not have a strict word limit, unlike the abstract, but it should be as concise as possible. It can be a tricky part of the paper to write, so many scientists and researchers prefer to write it last, ensuring that they miss no major points. An introduction should emphasize on background, importance, limitations, and assumptions. You should provide a short overview of the problem and define reasons for cloud migration.

Cloud Type & Platform (250 words):        --- NOTE: we only learned about MICROSOFT AZURE, and I am going to sit on an exam for certification as part of this course.

In this part, you have to decide the model for migration (PaaS, IaaS, SaaS) and cloud provider depending on your budget. Justify your selection from the perspective of features provided by the cloud service provider. You also need to identify whether you will use only private cloud or hybrid cloud services.

Hardware and Software Components (500 words):

In this section, you need to identify hardware and/or software components for the migration. You need to consider cost, speed, and other features (CPU, RAM, HDD etc.) when selecting the components. You may categorise the components as follows.

1.            Hardware Requirements-  End devices, Network devices, VMs, Others

2.            Software Requirements- Operating System, Database & Application software (features & services)

Budget (125 words):

Prepare a budget for the identified cloud services. You need to provide a table including all costs related to the deployment, operation, and management of the system for at least one year.

Reliability & Expandability (125 words):

Reliability and expandability are two key features of any IT system. The system must be fault tolerant and expandable. There should be a backup plan to handle any unexpected events. You need to consider the cost and performance when designing a reliable and expandable solution.

Ethical, Security and Sustainability Issues (250 word):

There are a number of issues related to ethics, security and sustainability when designing a cloud solution. In this section, you need to consider issues like professional ethics and standards, impacts of security breaches, and sustainability of the system. You also need to highlight the measures implemented to overcome the challenges related to ethical, security and sustainability issues.

Conclusion (125 words):

This section can help the reader absorb your finding a little more. In a few lines, you should summarize your findings. You can also provide some recommendations based on your design.

All papers that are used in the report must be cited in the reference section using the Harvard referencing style.
