What you need to know:
For the taught module content, you have a scheduled 34 contact hours with your
lecturers. All the taught module content and additional reading recommendations are on the
Moodle pages.
You have 116 hours of self-directed learning. Some content is made available for you
on the Moodle page; however, you will also be expected to independently search the
literature for more information to support your learning and your assignment preparation.
For this module there is one assignment which is based on one of three case studies
which will be given to you. You can choose which one of the case studies you will
base your 2,500-word (100% +/- 10%) assignment on.
You will answer the question:

‘Using the Case study, | will demonstrate how a compassionate approach in mental

health care service care can improve wellbeing’

What you must do:
You must familiarise with the learning outcomes below for this module so that you can
demonstrate in your assignment that you understand these and that you have achieved the
learning required.
All the learning outcomes below demonstrate elements of compassionate mental health
care in practice.

1. Recognise that people with mental health problems may have common and differing
needs and wants that are influenced by a wide variety of biopsychosocial factors.

. Discuss the main therapeutic interventions and approaches used in mental health
services delivered by allied health professionals and defined by law.

4. Demonstrate how you can apply a person-centred care approach to your patient
whilst at the same time upholding the patient's narrative to voice the persons
preferences wishes and feelings about their care.

diagnosis and relate the impact of diagnosis using the biopsychosocial model.

e Summarise the key points you will include in demonstrating a compassionate based
care approach of your case study using evidence from practice, shared in the taught
lectures and the literature to support you in your choices. (500 words).

e You can put your case study in the appendix if you prefer and this will not go towards
your overall word count.
