  • Open the file SC_PPT19_6b_FirstLastName_1.pptx, available for download from the SAM website.
  • Save the file as SC_PPT19_6b_FirstLastName_2.pptx by changing the “1” to a “2”.
    • If you do not see the .pptx file extension in the Save As dialog box, do not type it. The program will add the file extension for you automatically.
  • To complete this SAM Project, you will also need to download and save the following data files from the SAM website onto your computer:
    • Support_PPT19_6b_PieChart.xlsx
    • Support_PPT19_6b_Swimming.jpg
  • With the file SC_PPT19_6b_FirstLastName_2.pptx still open, ensure that your first and last name is displayed in the presenter notes on Slide 1.
    • If the presenter notes do not display your name, delete the file and download a new copy from the SAM website.
  • PROJECT STEPS
  1. As an administrator at the Mountainview Recreation Center near Boise in Idaho, you are in charge of compiling data about the recreation programs offered over the past year. You have created a presentation of the data for delivery to staff at the year-end meeting, and need to make a few more edits.
    Begin by viewing the presentation in Outline View, and then navigate to Slide 10 ("Age Groups") and work in Outline View as follows:
    1. Add Elementary before "School Age" in the second bullet item.
    2. Move Slide 10 ("AGE GROUPS") above Slide 9 (untitled).
    3. Return to Normal View.
  2. On Slide 2 ("GENERAL DATA"), clear all the formatting from the table.
  3. With Slide 2 ("GENERAL DATA") still displaying, enhance the outside border of the table as follows:
    1. Select the second line style (a dashed line) in the selection of border line styles.
    2. Select 3 point for the border weight.
    3. Select Olive Green, Accent 2, Darker 50% for the pen color.
    4. Apply the enhancement to the outside border.
    5. Apply the Offset: Left shadow effect to the table cells.
  4. On Slide 3 ("RECREATION CLASSES OFFERED"), insert a new Excel worksheet consisting of three rows and two columns with the data shown in Table 1.

  1. With Slide 3 ("RECREATION CLASSES OFFERED") still displaying, edit the embedded data as follows:
    1. Change the font size to 36 point.
    2. Change the value 150 to 180.
    3. Exit the worksheet.
  2. With Slide 3 ("RECREATION CLASSES OFFERED") still displaying, insert a linked pie chart as follows:
    1. Open the file Support_PPT19_6b_PieChart.xlsx.
    2. Copy the pie chart.
    3. Paste the pie chart as a linked object on the slide using the Use Destination Theme and Link Data paste option.
    4. Use Smart Guides to position the pie chart and the embedded worksheet on the slide as shown in Figure 1.

  4. On Slide 4 ("REVENUE FROM CLASSES"), enhance the table as follows:
    1. Split the third cell in Row 1 so that it becomes two cells.
    2. Type Fall in the new cell (now the first cell in Column 4).
    3. Select the entire table.
    4. Resize the table proportionally so that its right edge is even with the right edge of the graphic lines at the top of the slide.
    5. Modify columns widths so that the width of column 1 is approximately 3.5", and the widths of the remaining four columns are each approximately 2".
  5. On Slide 5 ("TOTAL REVENUE BY PROGRAM"), modify the column chart as follows:
    1. Change the chart type to Clustered Bar.
    2. Add a Primary Horizontal axis title to the chart with the text Revenue.
    3. Format the Primary Horizontal axis title in Bold and 18 point.
    4. Add Primary Major Horizontal gridlines to the chart.
  6. On Slide 6 ("MONTHLY POOL USAGE"), enhance the table as follows:
    1. Apply All Borders to the table.
    2. Change the weight of the border lines to ¾ point and reapply All Borders to see the changes.
    3. Apply the Divot Bevel effect to all the table cells.
    4. Center-align the data in Column 2 of the table.
    5. Change the color of the shading applied to the entire table to Orange, Accent 5, Lighter 80%.
    6. Make the last row of the table a Total row.
    7. Resize the first column to approximately 4.5".
    8. Merge the two table cells in Row 1 of the table to make one cell.
    9. Change the height of Row 1 to exactly 1.9".
    10. Fill the merged row with the picture file Support_PPT19_6b_Swimming.jpg.
  7. On Slide 7 ("SKATING RINK USAGE"), enhance the table as follows:
    1. Change the direction of the data in Row 1 of the table to Rotate All Text 270 degrees.
    2. Distribute rows 2 to 5 so that each row is the same height.
    3. Apply the Tight Reflection: Touching reflection effect to all the table cells.
  8. On Slide 10, modify the pie chart as follows, referring to Figure 2 as needed:
    1. Change the colors of the pie chart to Monochromatic Palette 3.
    2. Edit the chart data by changing the value for Preschool to 40,000.
    3. Explode the pie chart slice (second from the top) representing "School Age" to 25%.
    4. Change the chart layout to Layout 2 for the entire chart.
    5. Edit the chart title to Breakdown of Use by Age.
    6. Change the position of the data labels to Inside End.
    7. Increase the font size of the data labels to 16 point.
    8. Resize the pie chart to a width of 10.32" and a height of 5.17".
       
  9. Go to Slide 8 ("RECREATION CENTER BENEFITS"), and then enhance the slide as follows:
    1. With Slide 8 displaying, change the shading color applied to Row 1 in the table to Dark Teal, Accent 1, Darker 25%.
    2. Change the width of the entire table to 9".
  10. In Slide Sorter view, your presentation should look like the Final Figure on the following page. Save your changes, close the presentation, and exit PowerPoint. Follow the directions on the SAM website to submit your completed project.
