  • Open the file SC_WD19_8b_FirstLastName_1.docx, available for download from the SAM website.
  • Save the file as SC_WD19_8b_FirstLastName_2.docx by changing the “1” to a “2”.
    • If you do not see the .docx file extension in the Save As dialog box, do not type it. The program will add the file extension for you automatically.
  • To complete this SAM Project, you will also need to download and save the following data files from the SAM website onto your computer:
    • Support_WD19_8b_Circulation.xlsx
    • Support_WD19_8b_MF.docx
    • Support_WD19_8b_Technology.xlsx
  • With the file SC_WD19_8b_FirstLastName_2.docx still open, ensure that your first and last name is displayed in the footer.
    • If the footer does not display your name, delete the file and download a new copy from the SAM website.
  • PROJECT STEPS
  1. As a volunteer for the Friends of the Ashby Public Library, you are collaborating on a memo to Madeleine Frazier, the director of the organization. The memo summarizes statistics about the library in the past year. The director and another volunteer have reviewed the memo and made revisions using Word's Track Changes feature.
    Incorporate changes from Madeleine Frazier and the other volunteer, Kento Maki, as follows:
    1. Combine the revisions from the document Support_WD19_8b_MF.docx.
    2. Show the changes in the original document.
    3. Turn off Track Changes when you are finished.
  2. Resolve the tracked changes in the document as follows:
    1. Accept the first tracked change from Madeleine Frazier, which inserts the organization name and removes the placeholder text.
    2. Accept the next tracked change, which is from Kento Maki and deletes "library's" to remove repetitive text.
    3. Reject the next tracked change, which inserts "Ashby Public", because the name of the library has already been introduced.
    4. Accept the remaining changes in the document because they improve or correct the writing.
  3. In the pie chart, use Patron Visits as the chart title.
  4. Embed data from an Excel workbook to include a table Kento created as follows:
    1. Open the workbook Support_WD19_8b_Circulation.xlsx.
    2. Copy the data in cells A1:F6.
    3. On page 2, use Paste Special to embed the worksheet data as a Microsoft Excel Worksheet Object in the blank paragraph in the "Circulation by Branch" section.
    4. Close Support_WD19_8b_Circulation.xlsx.
  5. Insert a chart to comply with the request Madeleine Frazier inserted below the "Library Cards" table as follows:
    1. Select the text "[Insert a chart comparing the data in the table]" below the "Library Cards" table, and then insert a Clustered Column chart.
    2. Copy the table in the "Library Cards" section and then paste it in the chart spreadsheet window. (Hint: If prompted, click OK to continue.)
    3. Remove the Total data series from the chart, and then close the chart spreadsheet window.
    4. Delete the "Chart Title" placeholder object, since the placement of the chart makes the title unnecessary.
  6. Format the chart to improve its appearance as follows:
    1. Apply Style 14 to the chart to display wider data columns.
    2. Change the colors to Monochromatic Palette 5 to coordinate with the rest of the document.
    3. Add a Red, Accent 5 border to clearly separate the chart from the table.
  7. Link a chart from an Excel workbook to compare patron attitudes toward library technology as follows:
    1. Open the workbook Support_WD19_8b_Technology.xlsx.
    2. Copy the "Attitude Toward Library Technology" doughnut chart, and then paste it as a link using the destination theme in the blank paragraph at the end of the document.
    3. Close Support_WD19_8b_Technology.xlsx.
  8. Change the chart type of the "Attitude Toward Library Technology" chart to a Pie chart to match the "Patron Visits" chart.

Your document should look like the Final Figure on the following pages. Save your changes, close the document, and then exit Word. Follow the directions on the SAM website to submit your completed project.
