When my adventure as a tennis player started, I had many victories and good memories, I used to think life was easy. The young version of myself would've never imagined all the challenges and obstacles that I was about to face but let's start from the beginning. I was born in a convectional family in a small town in Spain. I always loved sports and tried out many kinds of disciplines until I was old enough to make a full commitment to one sport. I chose tennis, this decision was uncomplicated for me because my brother is a very successful player and have always been a source of inspiration for me. Now let's move to more recent times specifically August of 2014, when I first flew overseas to meet my family in America and started a new life. This moment of my life was one of the most critical times I ever faced but it also taught me the most. This abrupt change affected every aspect of my life because I had to start in a new school, learn a new language, make friends, adapt to the cultural differences, and learn new traditions. All these challenges also affected me in my sports discipline, since I was unable to give my all and focus on my practices and matches. Within a few months, I was feeling much more comfortable, I improved dramatically my language skills, I made new friends, and realized that if I have a positive and open mindset, I'll be able to reach all goals that I thought were impossible. After overcoming all these challenges, I felt confident and determined to translate all these life lessons to the tennis court to accomplish my lifetime goal of becoming a college athlete, just like my brother and father once did. One rainy Monday morning that I remember as the worst day of my life, we couldn't practice due to the weather conditions so we decided to work out at the gym instead, I was lifting weights and I suddenly felt a sharp pain running through my right arm. I didn't give it much importance and believed that it would eventually vanish. Months went by and the pain never went away, I visited many doctors and tried all recommended treatments but nothing seemed to be effective. This situation couldn't have come at the worst time, because my future was at stake. When all of this happened, I was a junior in high school, even though tennis has always been important in my life at that time it was a priority because it played a major role in my future. Sometime later a doctor finally found the correct diagnostic and it couldn't be worst. My only option to fully solve the problem once and for all was to perform a surgical procedure on my shoulder. I took it bravely and was determined to take all the lessons that life taught me to use them as emotional support and as a source of inspiration. After 5 months I was already back at the tennis courts and enjoying every minute of it because I learned that it is true what people say "You never know what you have until you lose it." Now it has become one of my favorite quotes because It perfectly describes my new mindset and fits beautifully the next chapter of my life that is college.
