Part 1: Students will participate in a Parent/Teacher Education presentation with a focus on one mental health diagnosis that parents and teachers may encounter with children (ie., Autism Spectrum, Trauma Related Disorders, Anxiety Disorders, etc). Students must cover the following topics: symptoms associated with that disorder (including examples that are easy to understand), struggles/concerns that parents/teachers may encounter with a child who presents with this disorder, and effective ways parents/teachers can help the child cope with these symptoms. The purpose of your presentation is to educate parents and teachers at a K-12 school setting with the goal of creating an understanding and providing effective coping with mental health issues. This 30-45-minute presentation should be creative/interesting to hold the attention of the audience. You are required to include at least one Kinesthetic Learning Activity (to involve our senses), which may include arts and crafts, playing music, playing a game, etc. Feel free to use video examples and clips from TV or movie characters to help audiences learn.

Part 2: In addition to your presentation, you will also create a Counseling handbook or pamphlet about the DSM-5 disorder in your presentation. The following should be highlighted: 1) important information about the mental health diagnosis, including symptoms and any relevant statistics, 2) specific interventions parents and teachers can use with clients at home and school, 3) community resources such as support groups, books, videos, extracurricular activities, etc, 4) effective treatment options for this diagnosis. This resource should be aesthetically pleasing, with pictures, graphs, charts, etc.
