Critical Assignment (Adviser Interview/Paper): You will interview a current adviser to a high school or college newspaper, TV or Radio station

Writing

Critical Assignment (Adviser Interview/Paper): You will interview a current adviser to a high school or college newspaper, TV or Radio station. You will use interview skills to gain information from the adviser. You will then write a 3-5 page paper (Times New Roman, size 12 font, single spacing) on the processes that go into researching and gathering news, writing news leads, editing, or writing feature news stories that was shared in the interview. Ask the adviser how long has he/she held the position; is it a paid stipend position or is it part of the teacher’s normal duties; what is the most challenging part of this position; how does the adviser select students to be a part of the publication/station, etc; what experience or classes in college did the adviser have to prepare him/her for this duty?

THE 1130 Instructor: Joyce A Bamman Final Project Instructions MASK: DIRECTOR (Using the play that I listed for this term. See Final Project Play) For your final project, you will create and defend an overall directorial concept for the play I provided. You will provide your ideas on how to connect this play with the audience. This should be original and fresh…and YOUR creative work, not someone else’s ideas. You are not making up a play. Here are the components of your final project: • Complete the Final Directorial Concept Sheet for (play on syllabus) • Using the Concept sheet as your guide, type a concept statement (1-2 pages) in which you explain your ideas for the play and how you think it should be produced. This should be an articulate persuasive piece of writing – your goal is to convince someone that your concept is the best one out there, and that you should be hired as director of the next production of this play. • Select pictures, quotes, musical choices, etc. that are inspired by and work with your concept idea. These can be found by doing basic research – in books, online, or in your own personal stash. Do NOT seek pictures of productions – these should be random images that seem to “fit” the world of the production you’re envisioning. • Submit your typed concept statement, Final Directorial Concept Sheet, and all bits of inspiration (music, pics, etc.) as attachments to this assignment. DO NOT make multiple JPEG submissions- put all images into a document or powerpoint or pdf and then submit. TOTAL POINTS POSSIBLE: 200 Grades based on: Completeness and thoroughness of project Backing up opinions and choices with solid evidence or statements Creativity and originality Neatness and correct submission Demonstrated knowledge and competency in chosen “mask” area
