 Summary of the Proposal This study seeks to evaluate whether there is a relationship between intervals of days between birth and the threat to animal species extinctions. This study will collect secondary data from published studies for a literature review. The study will also evaluate primary data by comparing the intervals of days between the birth of species threatened by extinction and those not under this risk to determine a correlation. Background Lin (2019) defines an animal species' extinction as a situation whereby the last member of that particular species dies. Therefore, the extinction of an animal species occurs when every individual member of that species is dead. The extinction of animal species is a significant concern for many scientists and environmentalists. Their primary concern is the loss of biodiversity and important animal species that ensure balanced or sustainable ecosystems. Therefore, many researchers have studied this subject matter, with many attempting to conserve habitats or ecosystems for species conservation (Lin, 2019). Other conservationists have also studied the factors that lead to animal species extinction. Most of these studies focus on human-wildlife interactions to explain animal species extinction. According to Nyhus (2016), human interactions with wildlife are often negative; humans often destroy natural habitats for various reasons such as settlement and agriculture. However, natural factors also contribute to animal species extinction (Lin, 2019). This study will focus on these natural factors, primarily the relationship between the interval of days between birth and animal species extinction. This research will help shape planning for conservation to tackle the risk of animal species extinction (Hillebrand et al., 2017). 2 Figure 1: The interval between birth and the threat of extinction According to the graph above, species with more days between birth intervals are more likely to become extinct. This analysis is especially true when this factor is combined with other critical natural factors such as climate change, natural mortality rate, and migration. Moreover, a larger interval between births predisposes an animal species to various elements that threaten their survival, such as the natural factors mentioned above. A larger interval between births also translates to a higher risk of extinction because of the time taken to regenerate a population. Methods This study will use qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis methods; hence, it will be mixed-methods research. This methodology meets this study's requirements since it will rely on both a literature review and a primary data analysis. Therefore, the qualitative data collection and analysis will occur through a literature review to analyze previous studies on relevant subject matters. On the other hand, the primary data analysis will be quantitative. The research will collect data about the intervals between various animal species' births and compare them with these animal species' populations and whether they are extinct. A correlational analysis will evaluate whether there is a positive or inverse 3 relationship between intervals between these animal species' days of birth and their likelihood of extinction.
