• Bowel obstruction is a  medical emergency which  happens when the large intestine is blocked by a tumor, scar tissue, or something else. The intestine can rupture as a result of the accumulation of gas and stool. Some bowel obstructions improve with only mild hospital care. Some people may need surgery.

To help extract excess gas from your stomach and intestines, a flexible, lubricated nasogastric tube (NG tube) can be inserted through the nose into the  stomach. Since the patients  won't be able to eat or drink, he or she will  be given fluids intravenously (through a vein). A partial small-bowel obstruction usually clears up in a few days, and if an NG tube was used, it can be removed. The patient will be given sips of fluid at that stage. If the patient can handle it, can  be placed on a complete liquid diet for a day or more, followed by easy-to-digest solid foods. A full bowel obstruction often necessitates surgery to correct or remove the obstruction's origin (tumor, adhesions, stricture), patch the hernia, or fix the intestine section at risk of volvulus. surgery is usually the best method.  A part of weakened or strangulated intestine may also be removed during this procedure.
