BNS 101 M3D1: The U.S. Constitution and the Power of the Presidency

After reading the module notes and the assigned readings, you are now ready to engage in an online discussion about the powers (or lack of powers) given to the American President in the Constitution and to offer some explanations for the limitations to that power or the opportunity for abuse of that power.

Discussion Questions

After completing the assigned readings for the module, please respond to the following questions in your initial post:

1. The framers of the Constitution were fearful of the authority of an unchecked executive, so they created a Presidency that had limited powers. What were the powers accorded the President by the Constitution and how were they limited? Give an example of how these limitations have worked (or not worked).

2. It is often argued that the growth of executive power since WWII has been marked, some labeling it an "imperial executive or presidency" (e.g., relative to Congress and relative to the pre-WWII past). Do you find this argument convincing and valid, or problematic and overdrawn?  Explain.

Your initial post should be at least 250 words and must substantively integrate the assigned readings and other learning materials with proper?APA?style?formatting.?
