GETTING STARTED

  • Open the file NP_PPT19_EOM3-2_FirstLastName_1.pptx, available for download from the SAM website.
  • Save the file as NP_PPT19_EOM3-2_FirstLastName_2.pptx by changing the “1” to a “2”.
    • If you do not see the .pptx file extension in the Save As dialog box, do not type it. The program will add the file extension for you automatically.
  • With the file NP_PPT19_EOM3-2_FirstLastName_2.pptx still open, ensure that your first and last name is displayed in the presenter notes on Slide 1.
    • If the presenter notes do not display your name, delete the file and download a new copy from the SAM website.
  • PROJECT STEPS
  1. As the office manager for Riverside Place, an independent living facility for active seniors, you have developed a presentation for new residents that describes the range of programs available.
    Begin by changing the Smiley Face shape to a Sun shape.
  2. Continue to modify the Sun shape on the title slide: fill the sun shape with the Parchment texture. Add alt text in the description box for the Sun shape as follows: Drawing of a light yellow sun.
  3. With the title slide still displaying, insert a WordArt object using the text Riverside Place and the Fill: Brown, Accent color 3; Sharp Bevel WordArt style. Move the WordArt into the light green rectangle above the "Independent Living for Activity Seniors" subtitle so that it appears centered between the left and right sides of the rectangle.
  4. On Slide 2 ("Our Management Staff"), insert the Organization Chart Smart Art diagram from the Hierarchy category. Enter text for the SmartArt and demote the text box for May Wong in the text pane as shown in Figure 1.

  1. With Slide 2 ("Our Management Staff") still displaying, delete the shape for Alice Ng. Move the shape for Pat Dawes up. Promote the shape for May Wong. Apply the Intense Effect SmartArt style. Add the alt text in the description box as follows: Organization Chart for management staff.
  2. On Slide 3 ("Fitness Activities"), remove the picture background so that only the figure of the woman lifting weights, marking areas to keep and remove as needed. Copy the picture and paste it. Change the color of the copied picture to Washout. Move the copied picture so that it appears below and to the right of the first picture as shown in Figure 2.

  1. On Slide 4 ("Social Activities"), click a picture and open the selection pane. Name the top picture Holiday Fun and the bottom picture Relaxing. (Hint: Do not include the period following the text "Relaxing".) Change the brightness and contrast of the Holiday Fun picture at Brightness: -20%, Contrast: +40%. Select the Relaxing picture, then change the white background color as the transparent color.
  2. On Slide 5 ("Monthly Theme Nights"), insert a text box in the blank area above the orange rounded rectangle containing the text "Extra Charge!" Type the text Families Welcome! in the new text box. Center the text box above the "Extra Charge!" text box. Remove the fill from the orange rectangle. Change the both the left and the right margins for the text in the rounded rectangle to 0".
  3. On Slide 9 ("Resident Participation"), change the number of people participating in Fitness Activities to 130. Add the chart title above the chart and enter the text Average Monthly Participation by Activity. Add the legend at the bottom of the chart. Apply the Style 16 chart style. Change the colors of the chart to Monochromatic Palette 2. Add data labels at the Center position on the chart columns. Increase the size of the data labels to 24-point and change the color to White, Background 1. Add the following alt text to the chart: Column chart showing number of people participating in activities.

In Slide Sorter view, your presentation should look like the Final Figure on the following page. Save your changes, close the presentation, and exit PowerPoint. Follow the directions on the SAM website to submit your completed project.
